Watching this made me feel sick to my stomach. It's a long video, but it's worth the time... it really drives home the gravity of our country's foreclosure mess.
After watching: Should local churches step up and perform the job that the charities mentioned in the video can't do? It might be a logistical nightmare, but it reeks of ministry possibility.

This hit me hard dude. Somehow our family has avoided this. Is there a ministry opportunity here? You bet! That story made me wonder why churches can’t contact people pre-forclosure, run a garage sale, and then split the profits with the homeowner.

That’s a great garage sale idea. I wonder if there are churches that are already doing this that I’m unaware of.
The inland empire is just about an hour north of us in Orange County.
It’s personal to us because it’s a very similar situation to what is happening to us in Michigan. We weren’t in danger of losing our home as we’ve moved to San Diego. But we have a vacant home in northern burbs of Detroit that we’re still on the hook for. Somehow, our home has just sold. 4 months! The average in our neighborhood is 18 months. God took care of us.
I join the band wagon of how hard this was to watch. It really brings light to the situation that the desperation is not happening in only struggling neighborhoods, but neighborhoods that contain many families and their “dream homes”. There has to be a way to help these families keep their belongings or get them some money for their goods. I still can’t believe all of the things being thrown away. How many other people could be served from this? It makes me feel helpless.
