Jane: Thanks for stopping by. I’m only passingly familiar with Stendahl’s work… I had a professor in college who studied with him.

I was glad that Wright could keep up with Colbert as well. He’s one of the best satirists and interviewers out there right now.

I keep thinking of the excellent essay Krister Stendahl wrote about the Resurrection called “Immortality Is Too Much and Too Little.” It’s from decades ago and there is some overlap with NT Wright’s essay. I don’t think it’s online (I looked for it when I was writing my tribute to Bishop Stendahl with Deirdre Good at the Episcopal Cafe after he died in May)but it’s been published in several places, including a collection of essays called Meanings.

Bishop Wright was quite a bit funnier than I expected. You really have to be a verbal athlete to handle these interviews with Stephen Colbert (who, it goes without saying, is funny all the time, and who is a very serious Catholic and quite committed Christian).

Interesting interview. Not so sure on re-creating beginning with the resurrection of Christ – with the exception of believers being reborn and transformed by the Holy Spirit.

Worth discussing – I do agree with two stage – the heaven that exists now is temporary.
