Google Reader (or, confession of a late adopter)

I should just go ahead and file this in the “I’m a moron” section; I mean, there’s a reason RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. So last night I finally hopped aboard the Google Reader train.

Google Reader (and other RSS aggregators like it) basically makes it really easy and less time-consuming to browse many blogs and websites in one slick interface. So rather than surfing the inordinate amounts of blogs that I try to read by using bookmarks, all of the information is in one place and automated, so I know immediately if there is new content on any given site.

Now, I assume the readers of this post fall into one of two categories. Either you 1) have never heard of RSS readers and this is all new to you, or 2) have been using an RSS reader for ages, and you see me for the fool I am. If you’re a “1″, you should try it out. The RSS feed for my website is located on the orange button on the left side of this page (under “Subscribe”). If you’re a “2″, I must simply hang my head in shame and ask for mercy.

Hey, Google Reader just notified me of some new content. This is going to be good.

UPDATE: Here’s a great video called “RSS in plain English” that should clear up most questions.

I’ve used Google Reader a bit at work, but am in love with (and have been for at least two years) a Firefox extension called Sage. Its an in-browser RSS reader that tickles me in all the right places… including, most importantly, not needing another program / window open / account to remember to check.

Every day i just click the little feather up there wedged between my home and print buttons, and I’ve got a dozen or so folders arranged in to categories like “Friends”, “Music News”, “Sports”, “Geek Stuff”, and more.

Worth a look of G-Reader ever lets you down.

Hope all is well in DSM.

It’s good to see someone else jump on the Google Reader bandwagon. The really nice thing about it is being able to access the same content from home/school/work.

Thanks, Andrew. I’ll check it out. I am going a little crazy with GReader right now, so it could be a while before I check it out but I’ll keep it in mind.

Toma… do i know you? Do you have a website? Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment anyhow.

I’ve never used google reader before – I’ve used onfolio, windows live bookmarks, and Internet explorer’s RSS reader. I’ll have to give it a try.

Shane:

Once you try it, you won’t go back!
